Shipton Charity Quilt
Sue M and I started getting the Charity quilt together yesterday.
It went together fairly easily with just some easing here and there and think so far its looking good.
We just have to decide on setting triangles and a border and then it can be sandwiched up reading for quilting.

A Gift of Quilts

Today we set off to London to visit Olympia to see the 500 quilts made for the Olympic Games.
Every country's main team plus the Paralympic team will be given a quilt and we found that The Shipton Quilters quilt called Shipton All Stars will be going to the main team of Mauritania which is in West Africa.
I personally made one too and found mine to be going to Paralympics team of Mozambique.
I felt it was a real treat to see these quilts as it is the only time they would have been seen all together.Thankfully they have produced a book with a photograph of all of the quilts in it and I purchased one for the group so you get to see your work in PRINT.
I don't know why but think we will be taking a little bit more interest in the team of Mauritania in the opening ceremony and watching to see how they perform throughout the games.
As you can see it was Abigail's first quilt show. We thought that this was a little bit of history in the making for her although she doesn't know it just yet!

Where Still Here
After a long absence from blogging we are back and hope to post what we we have being doing on a monthly basis .
Last night was our AGM and we said good bye to Jenny who has been a fantastic chairman( WOMEN) for the past 6 years. Not goodbye in the sense she is going off and leaving us but it was time for her to hang up her shoes in this role.
I don't think anyone else has ever done it for 6 years and she has managed this with working full time and getting up to sew in the early hours - long before any of us have even dragged ourselves out of bed!
Thank you Jenny for all you have done for Shipton Quilters. It has been an amazing 6 years and hope you can now sit back and just enjoy coming to the group.
We finished off last night with a small show and tell of just 2 colour item's which was varied and of excellent quality. Sorry out of practice and forgot the camera but will try to do better as the year progresses.
We also have made a start on our next charity fund raising quilt . The charity has yet to be decided and we are now asking members to put on their thinking caps to come up with some new idea's of who will benefit from it.
I have started the group off with 2 of the blocks pictured below and now its up to them to choose their fabric and make 2 blocks each for it.
I will post the blocks up as an when they come back to me.

Summer Supper 2011
Last Wednesday evening saw us at Sue H's house for our annual summer super.
It always surprises me that we all agree to bring either a sweet or savoury dish and we end up with a fantastic array of food. Wednesday was no exception and we all tucked in to great food and drink - Well you do have to have Pimms on a summer evening don't you? Sue M made a lovely lemonade drink which was thankfully non alcoholic for all the drivers.
We are losing a very long standing member of our group this summer. For the past 25 something years Hilary has opened up the Shipton Reading Room hall and laid out chairs and in the winter put the heating on so it is nice and warn for us.
She has been an unsung hero over the years so as a token of esteem we made friendship blocks and she was given flowers and a garden voucher to buy something for her new garden.
We wish Hilary all the very best in this new phase of her life.
It was a lovely relaxed evening and now we are on holiday until September when we will be welcoming back old and some new members.
A very big thank you for Sue H for hosting a lovely evening and to Clive her DH who went fishing to get out of our way- I hope he did arrive back home as when we left it was pitch dark he was not back- CLIVE. Its safe to come back we have gone. LOL.

It was with such great pleasure that Anne Norman came to Shipton Quilters last Wednesday to be presented with a cheque for £2880.11 forhttp://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/?gclid=CL_l_6TD0KkCFUoc4QodmBLRNg HELP THE HEROES.
Anne spoke about how out money would be used to rehabilitate wounded soldiers not just in body but in mind also.
We were all honoured to be involved in making this quilt that made such a lot of money for this worthy cause.
Great job ladies and BIG THANKS to all our boys out there who are fighting the cause for us.
